"Interpretation" Review |
 |
Sometimes, only real life can teach us the lessons we need to know. In Lin Oeding's "Interpretation," Dan (Ian Bohen) and Erica (Cindy Chiu) come face-to-face with a group of philosphical thugs in an urban back alley. The thugs, who'd just been discussing the merits of Lao-Tzu's "The Art of War" are, instead, taught the real meaning of Lao-Tzu's teachings during their encounter with the far more disciplined Dan.
They will all be changed by the encounter.
In a world in which wars are fought over political, philosophical and theological differences, Oeding's film seems a reminder about the role of interpretation as it influences the way we relate, the way we work, the way we play and, yes, the ways in which we choose our conflicts. Simple and straightforward, "Interpretation" carries with it an appropriately urban, gritty feeling combined with strong fight choreography and natural dialogue against the backdrop of Lao-Tzu's words.
