Nikyatu Jusu's "African Booty Scratcher" is a short film that beautifully blends lessons about cultural understanding, compromise, family and self-identity. Isatu is an American born girl preparing for her prom and, of course, planning on the Americanized dress. Her mother, sensitively portrayed by Ebbe Bassey, hopes for something, shall we say, a little more traditional. Jusu tackles a broad subject with a simple lesson, and the final product is a touching lesson likely to resonate with parents and teens.
